Palæstinensiske forfattere – under besættelse og i eksil
Forfatterskolen, ToRS og arabisklitteratur.dk inviterer til palæstinensisk litteraturaften torsdag d. 26. september kl. 19-21.
Mød de to palæstinensiske forfattere, Mazen Maarouf og Maya Abu Alhayyat, som rejser til Danmark fra Reykjavik og Jerusalem.
De to forfattere vil være i samtale med Ditte Marie Nesdam-Madsen og læse op fra deres værker.
Mazen Maarouf (f.1978) er en palæstinensisk forfatter, oversætter og journalist. Han voksede op i Libanon og har siden 2011 boet i Island. Han har skrevet digte og noveller og hans novellesamling, Vittigheder til Krigerne udkom på dansk i 2019. Mazens fortællinger udspiller sig ofte i konteksten af krig og bevæger sig på grænsen af det absurde i sin afsøgning af, hvad krig gør ved mennesker og samfund. Hans opvækst som palæstinensisk flytning i Beirut under den libanesiske borgerkrig har sat sit præg på hans livssyn, og han er i dag en vigtig stemme i den palæstinensiske diaspora.
Maya Abu Alhayyat er en palæstinensisk romanforfatter, digter og børnebogsforfatter født i Beirut. Hun har redigeret The Book of Ramallah, en novelleantologi udgivet af Comma Press i 2021. Hendes børnebog A Blud Pond of Questions og digtsamlingen You Can Be the Last Leaf er begge oversat til engelsk. En samling af Mayas digte, der skildrer en kvindes hverdag og refleksioner under besættelse, er oversat til dansk og publiceret i magasinet Vi er mange (2022). Siden 2013 har Alhayyat været direktør for Palestine Writing Workshop, en institution, der søger at fremme læsning i de palæstinensiske samfund gennem kreative skriveprojekter og historiefortælling.
Samtalen er på engelsk, og de litterære tekster læses op på arabisk og i dansk oversættelse.

Meet the two Palestinian writers Mazen Maarouf and Maya Abu Alhayyat, who travel to Denmark from Reykjavik and Jerusalem.

Mazen Maarouf (b.1978) is a Palestinian writer, translator, and journalist. He grew up in Lebanon and has been living in Iceland since 2011. He has written poems and short stories and the short story collection Jokes for the Gunmen was published in Danish in 2019 (Vittigheder til Krigerne). Mazen’s stories often take place in the context of war and move on the edge of the absurd in his exploration of what war does to people and society. His upbringing as a Palestinian migrant in Beirut during the Lebanese civil war has left its mark on his outlook on life, and he is today an important voice in the Palestinian diaspora.
Maya Abu Alhayyat is a Palestinian novelist, poet, and children’s book author born in Beirut (1980). She edited The Book of Ramallah, an anthology of short stories published by Comma Press in 2021. Of her works, the children’s book A Blud Pond of Questions and a collection of poems titled You Can Be the Last Leaf are translated into English. A collection of Maya’s poems which depict a woman’s everyday life and reflections under occupation have been translated into Danish and published in the magazine Vi er mange (2022). Since 2013, Alhayyat has been the director of the Palestine Writing Workshop, an institution that seeks to encourage reading in Palestinian communities through creative writing projects and storytelling.
The conversation will be in English and literary texts will be read in Arabic and Danish.
